Loved every bit of my trip to the Hairy Lobster. Everyone there is so friendly and obviously wants you to enjoy your time there.... The food is really great, including some unique dishes I had not heard of before. Great selection of drinks and coffee too. Inparticular I like that it has an upscale feel but that you can come in as you are without really dressing up. If I return toPortland it’ll be on the list again for sure! Read more

The best food and the best staff! We had a large group so we were able to sample a large selection of the share plates which... make up the menu. Beverages are a bit pricey, but I think it's normal for a place like this. Read more
The mushroom bisque was amazing! I think I could of been happy eating bowls of the soup. But, the rest of the dinner was just... as delicious. Very clean and comfortable, our waiter was amazing especially since we came in with four 8th graders and the chefcame out to visit with the teens! A great experience for the kids. The only reason giving 4 stars is because the bus boy wasunbelievable rude, otherwise a great experience! Read more

There are OMG, I want to eat every kettle chip in the bag dining experiences and there are OMG, Thank you, world for allowing me... to be present in this moment to enjoy and appreciate this exquisite meal. While most of my life is spent wanting just one potatochip, now and then, I have the good fortune to be transported to a place where hunger is sated, not just by food, but withintentional and edible art, given life by creativity, flavor, and attitude. I am grateful to world-class chefs Harry andMelissa Root for their innovative, delicious, unexpected meals. The Hairy Lobster is at the top of my list for great PDXrestaurants. The casual service and atmosphere belie a meal that's Michelin-star worthy. What's my favorite dish? The lastthing I ate. For this review, it would be a halibut and butter wine sauce dish with gnocchi and braised cabbage. The timebefore it was the trout. Bisque in winter. Salads in summer. The lobster was my birthday choice and it was amazing. The HappyHour is also tasty but it is very hard to pass up the regular menu. The wine list is thoughtful and the cocktails are inspired.I find the portions adequate and usually one medium-sized dish is enough for me. (My husband orders two.) The desserts areincredible. Seriously. Get dessert. Even if you're full, get dessert. Melissa Root pulls finesses bouquets of textures andflavors. Every dessert I've ordered has been up at the top of finest desserts I won't forget. I was raised by a mother with madbaking skills and it is rare to find a restaurant dessert as good as what my mom baked, and even more rare to find dessert thatis better.
