Here's the thing...this place isn't Red Star Tavern anymore. I found out the hard way, by attempting to drop in for food and... drinks with friends prior to a show around the corner. If you follow Google maps, it will direct you into the hotel adjacent. That's not a good idea because when I asked the hotel front desk, the lady wasn't very nice as she sort of told me that it's notthat restaurant anymore but I can walk down their hallway if I want. I don't think they appreciate the information in Google notbeing updated for this new place that appears to be riding on the Red Star Tavern's coattail. About the place...they are kindof vague about everything, I sat at a bar table and was brought a single page menu with no more than 6 entrees on it. When Iasked about this, I was told that they cannot find people to work so they are unable to expand the menu at the moment. I couldhave ordered to try it out but there were no vegetarian options and well, I'm mostly a vegetarian. It was also explained thatthe guy who handles marketing has just not updated the Google page. Anyway, we didn't stay and order and had to rush to findanother place at that point. Read more

What a great place for breakfast! (I didn't get a chance to try lunch or dinner during my trip.) I was very impressed by the... breakfast menu selection, flavor, and freshness. Some of the best brisket I've every had (hope they keep it on the menu). Warmatmosphere and cozy seating. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Read more

The Red Star has a great atmosphere and is in walking distance from several hotels. The burger is excellent, the fried potato... wedges addictive and the old fashioned is done right - gentlemen's cube included! Read more

Mom and I stumbled upon this place after a show and we'll definitely be coming back. The service was very attentive and the... drinks were strong, I recommend the old-fashioned. We shared a cheese platter with some delicious Humboldt Fog cheese, and I hadthe risotto which is absolutely delicious. The decor made me feel like we were missing a cigar but it didn't feel overlypretentious, can't wait to come back. Read more

This place is great if you want a Portland bar experience! If you're looking for a quick meal this might not be the best option... for you. But if you want good drinks and great food and atmosphere this place is awesome! Their happy hour is great value too!But be careful if you reserve through Open Table. Their happy hour ends at 6pm but the app will tell you it goes until 7. Read more
