I had some family in town who appreciate live music. They also spend large portions of the year in New Orleans. I booked a... reservation foolishly not knowing that Tapalaya did not only serve Creole food but was also very New Orleans themed. It didn'tmatter though because the decor and music had authenticity to it without being over the top or hokey. The table favorite was theShrimp and Grits and the Cucumber Margarita. Service was good, food was good, but when it was time to pay, the waiter took my wine before I was finished with it along with... my credit card, and brought the wine back with the card and receipt in it. Had a great time here with friends and family celebrating a birthday. The food was fantastic and while it's not exactly classic... Cajun (it's Vietnamese fusion), it's damn good. My only complaint is the portion sizes. I get that it's a tapas stylerestaurant, but for the prices, I expected a bit more food on my plate. The atmosphere was great. Good jazz music played inthe background but wasn't so loud as to hamper conversation. The wait staff was very friendly and quick to return with drinkorders and refills. I went to Tapalaya because my son-in-law was having a book-signing there. I had never been before, but decided to order after... getting a book. I had fried catfish, greens and grits. I will have to tell you that it was one of my favorite dinners ever.While the catfish breading was spicy, the fish was moist and cooked just right. The greens and grits were also delicious.
