The Frick, and it's Cafe, remain one of the best kept secrets in the city of Pittsburgh. Visiting and dining here is a respite... from the business of life. I have long been a fan of their tea service, and I'm rather disappointed that it is now only offeredon weekends. You get more food for your buck than most other tea services in town: four tea sandwiches, at least two scones perperson, and as an assortment of pastries and fresh fruit. They also offer lunch daily, and dinner services on Friday. This is alovely place to treat yourself to good food and a little peace and quiet, or to take out of town guests. Non-members can makesame-day reservations. After you've eaten, I also highly recommend walking the grounds to visit the Car and Carriage Museum andthe greenhouse, both free to enter. EDIT: Now, post-pandemic, the cafe has re-opened and is moving in a different direction, towards more causal, grab and go fare. I miss the ability to make reservations and have leisurely lunch or tea. The tea servicein particular is, in my opinion, overpriced for what is served now: two small sandwiches, a scone and a cookie with tea.Previously, it was four sandwiches, two scones, multiple bite-sized desserts and fresh fruit. Staff have told me that they oftenhad to turn away guests who were visiting nearby Frick park for a stroll, then would look for a place to eat on Google maps, only to find the cafe full with reservations. I can understand that, and wanting to serve more visitors more fully. I feel thischanges comes at a loss - the cafe no longer reflects the elegance or serenity of the rest of the property. If you want a fullertea service, try The Inn on Negley in Shadyside. I still love the grounds and museum spaces on the property, the the cafe was myfavorite mid-week get-away. Read more

Atmosphere can only get you so far! My roast beef sandwich (16$) was not only dry but the bread tough and dry and it was missing... pretty much the roast beef ! Read more

Got there at 10 am on a Sunday, not at all crowded, nabbed an outside table. Ordering at the counter was fine, staff was... personable and helpful, servers were lovely. The patio can?t be beat for ambiance on a beautiful summer day. I ordered theafternoon tea plate, which was beautifully presented (see pic). Highlights were the scone & clotted cream?that was amazing! AndI really enjoyed the ginger-licorice tea. Now for the overly detailed food critique: The cucumber sandwich was undone by verymushy bread. The other sandwich was tasty. The scone was delicious, but could have had more tart cherries. Berries were perfectand nicely presented. Cookie and brownie bite were fine, but a bit too sweet for me; I?d have preferred more fruit or anotherfinger sandwich rather than the super-sweet stuff. Overall, I give ambiance & service 5-stars Food 4-stars, and Prices/value3-stars. Read more

The Afternoon Tea is one of the many food options at this cafe. I really enjoyed dining outside in the pretty grounds of The... Frick Pittsburgh. It was just such a peaceful experience on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I will for sure be returning soon! No needfor reservations at this time and the cafe closes at 3:00 pm I believe. Read more

We planned a nice birthday lunch for party of 6 today at the Cafe at the Frick. But instead we found there was self seating.... No waitresses. The servers kindly got our drinks too the table after we put our order in at the counter ourselves. They didbring out the food but the quiche and salad was really small and not as savory as described. The placard menu out front didn'tlet you know it was self seating and the girls who set up our tables and chairs didn't explain the process. I got up and walkedinside to ask how it worked and got our silverware etc. One other person in our party took the order paid inside. It wasawkward. And another party of 6 came in and were having same experience and almost left without ordering. My friends plannedthis as they have been there for their birthdays other times and it was enjoyable and special. That was not the case today. Read more
