This restaurant is cozy, elegant and at its heart has a solid team which delivered high quality customer service each time I had... an occasion to dine here. The bar area is very relaxing and inviting. Their cocktails mixed to perfection will make you neverwant to leave this place. The menu is generous in choices and will satisfy everyone seating around the table- a carnivore aswell as a vegetarian guest. Thank you! Read more

We'd had a less-than-stellar experience here before and hadn't been back for awhile. We ordered take-out during the pandemic and... were disappointed by the quality and amount of the food, so hadn't tried it again. Tonight was better. We both had pasta -- myhusband had the short rib tagliatelle and I had the mushroom Bolognese. Both were tasty and well-prepared. He had the tomatosalad and I had the summer beans, both good. The small portion that I got was more than half as big as my husband's large; theprices are doubled for large, so you expect bigger portions. When we asked before ordering, the waitress said that the amountswere 3 oz. for small, 7 for large, though she then admitted that wasn't much help. I assume the measurements are of the pastabefore cooking. My portion was plenty. Drinks were good, though pricey for Pittsburgh ($14). Our waitress was hustling; Idon't know if they were short staffed, but she was all but running. She got everything right, was appropriately solicitous andattentive, and deserved the larger-than-20% tip I gave her. I'm still not a fan of the focaccia, which is insubstantial, butthe olive oil it comes with is a nice touch. Not sure how the big crystals of salt are supposed to be added to the bread, sincethey give it a rather unpleasant and hard crunch. The carafe of water was warmer than room temperature, and I had to ask for iceto be added to it. The room is quite noisy; there are no soft surfaces, no rugs, tablecloths, or wall hangings to absorb sound. The ceiling looks as if it was designed to deflect noise, but it doesn't do a very good job. When we walked in, the maitre d'shouted at us, and the waitress shouted at us, and the whole room was an assault on the eardrums. The music being played can'tcompete, so it just adds to the cacophony. It makes for an unsettling evening; we didn't want to sit and enjoy the scene, so weskipped dessert and left as soon as we could. For the cost ($112 before tax and tip), I'd rat Read more

This was my second time dining at Alta Via. I thought I’d give it another try as it’s close to my house. We went with a... large party of 7 for my sisters birthday. The food was extremely disappointing… I could not even eat more than a bite of mine.Between all of us, we tried almost every pasta dish on the menu and every single one was horrible. We tried to use salt andpepper to redeem the dishes but nothing helped. We thought that the first time we went that maybe it was simply an off day anddecided to give it another shot and once again we were extremely disappointed. Given the fact that we paid so much money andnone of us were happy with our food is unacceptable. We told them it was my sisters birthday and they brought out a candle on aplate….no complimentary ice cream or a small pastry…a candle. It was honestly insulting and pathetic especially consideringhow much we paid. I am not the type to leave negative reviews but I feel like if it saves someone else from wasting their moneyat this terrible restaurant, it’s worth it. I am willing to pay any price for quality food and there are much betterrestaurants in Pittsburgh for a lower price point, don’t waste your time or money here. I am honestly in shock that this placehas good reviews, the food is consistently tasteless, gross, and overpriced. Read more

The restaurant is beautiful! The service was solid. The food was OK. The fritto misto and the Cosmo-Not were the two highlights... for me. The presentation of some of the food- like this cherry sorbet (which was so bland) was…a choice. Bottom line: thequality of the food didn’t match the restaurant atmosphere or prices. This definitely is the weak link of Big Burrito. Read more
