Menu for Southern Tier Brewery in Pittsburgh, PA

Normally this place is great, lots of room, beautiful outdoor area, lot of good beer. Usually the food is good too, but I did... however have my first bad food item there this past Saturday. I asked the waiter what was better, the chicken pot pie ($13) orjambalaya ($16). No hesitation, he said the jambalaya. It was actually quite a poor choice. It was several spoons of jambalayaspicy meats on top of part;y cold, still wet, under-cooked rice. The meat was kinda alright, the rice was not. Worse, I ate thewhole thing as I was starving and it was at least edible, but I was still starving afterward! For $16 I expect a meal! I couldhave gotten a burger/fries for $10-12 and been at least full and thought the food was good. The beers are great, obviously. The food here is pretty good too. Its location makes it an excellent place to chill before a... concert at Stage AE or any event at Heinz Field. Decent amount of space indoors and out, although it can get pretty packed onevent days. Read more

Their house-made vodka is ABSOLUTELY GROSS HERE! And it?s the only vodka they serve. Seriously, offer customers at least 1 other... option like Tito?s or Absolute because their ?vodka? SUCKS. I get that this is a brewery but not everyone likes to drink beer soif you are coming here and are the odd one in the party looking for a mixed drink with vodka, don?t bother coming. Ordered take out and went to the bar and attempted to order a beer while I waited. The first beer I wanted to try was apparently... no longer on the menu but was on the actual menus as well as the screens. So the second choice I had the keg literally justkicked as he was attempting to pour it. The bartender attempted to correct this and brought me over two samples to try. One ofthem was alright so I ordered that, I should have ordered a mix drink instead. It was alright, just not my ideal pick. I orderedthe cauliflower appetizer and the pastrami Reuben for dinner. The appetizer was very good, I would recommend it. The sandwichwas also good, just was very light on the 1,000 island. I should have asked for it on the side. The beer was decent, but a bit too exotic on most of the varieties. I did a flight and the beers I had were great in the 5oz.... version, but I wouldn't have wanted any of them in a full pint. The food was decent, but the selection is very limited. LuckilyI was in the mood for a simple sandwich. The chips were great, had a really nice seasoning on them. The atmosphere was prettygreat.
