Food was good, the portions are huge so I ended up having to pack some of it back to hotel. The place fills up rather quickly.... By the time I left the wait time was already an hour long (I came when it opened at noon). Too bad they didn't have any freshbreads to serve us before the meal came and they didn't have any fish chowder when I wanted to order it to go with my leftovers. Read more

Bullock's Bistro is a must-eat location when you visit Yellowknife. The fish and fillet specialists cook the freshest fish... caught right at Great Slave Lake. Friendly, warm, unique, and comfortable are some of the words that I think of when at BB. Youmay think the menu appears pricy, but trust me, the fish and portion is well worth it! You should also consider that thingsdon't come easy in the north, especially during winter. I had the Great Slave Cod - Pan Fried (you can choose between Grilled,Deep-fried, and Pan-fried), the tender and juicy fish, topped with the tasty sweet sauce is simply unforgettable. I wanted toorder their chowder, but that is apparently available during winter. This is an excellent way to experience Yellowknife'slifestyle and culture, dining at Old Town's local restaurant. It is more than the delicious fish. You may want to reserve aheador come early due to lots of people wanting to eat here, tourists or locals alike. Read more

Bullocks?s is a small but bustling spot in the heart of Yellowknife?s Old Town. The building presents as a ramshackle collection... of log cabin construction, quirky, retro posters and handwritten signage. But don?t judge this book by its cover. This place isbusy from opening to closing for a reason. It?s justifiably famous for its fish (pan fried; deep fried; and grilled) & chips, there are other delicious offerings on the menu. When you walk in you are immediately strick by the close quarters and quirkydecor. The walls and ceiling (and a very large, mounted Pickeral) are covered in handwritten notes and business cards, and thereare more retro posters scattered randomly throughout. Mix & match tables and chairs are spaced close, the open kitchen is rightthere, and there?s a buzz of conversations. We loved the vibe instantly! Fish dishes are available based on what?s been caughtby local fishers. On the day we visited Pickeral and Lake Trout were available, so one of us chose pan fried Pickeral. (*Note:they won?t grill Pickeral because the flesh is too delicate) One of us decided on the Bison Ribeye, mainly because the price wasmuch more affordable than this cut would have cost in Toronto. The Pickeral lived up to its billing. The genrous portion wascooked to juicy perfection, and was accompanied by crispy, tasty french fries and a salad. While they serve a side of house-madetartare sauce we recommend eating the fish as is so as to fully enjoy the delicate flavours. Also, a quick word about saladdressings. They serve a side of a feta cheese-based dressing, which is very tasty. The server recommended combining some ofBullock?s in-house made ginger and herb sauce (which has quite sweet profile) with the feta dressing; we did, but wish wehadn?t. The fish was sautéed in the same ginger-herb sauce, so adding more to the plate made everything too sweet - at leastfor our palate. Our bad; we should have done a taste test first. The Bison Ribeye was cooked a pe Read more

This place is an institution. Any tourist must come here and try their food! I highly recommend you make a reservation as they... fill up quickly. This is the type of place where you look at the menu but ignore the price. The size of your portion of fish isso big it often hangs off the sides of your plate. Recommend getting your food with both fries and salad. The fries are freshand perfectly seasoned. The salad is simple and perfect. Do not over look the sauces! They do not over take the flavors butcompliment them to perfection. Read more

A fun, very casual joint to get fresh, locally caught seafood. Super friendly crew, esp Allison - host, waiter and chef all at... the same time! Portions are huge and can be easily ordered family style. Fish and chips are a must as is the fresh fish - wehad Arctic Char, perfectly done with the buffalo ribeye. Chowder was great on a chilly-30c day. Read more
