Service and atmosphere was good! The ramen I had was tasty but I think there was too much kimchi in it. In the end, it did not... taste like much anything else even though I chose kimchi because I like it, it was overpowering. The ramen was full of goodthings in it like different vegetables and pickles. I liked that. Also the thin noodles were very good. I couldn't really tastethe shrimps though. I'm someone who eats lots of ramen so I think it is just a preference in my case. You should definitely goto this unique and tasteful restaurant if you haven't tried it. Read more

We went to Bad Bones last week for lunch and I was disappointed. I thought $20 for a bowl of soup was a bit pricey but every... restaurant in St. John?s seems to be pricey! (If you are a tourist and plan to visit for more than a few days I suggest rentinglodging that has a kitchenette.) I?m allergic to mushrooms and I asked the server to check re: the miso used in their soups, asoften miso is mushroom based, but rice miso is mushroom-free. She seemed a bit peeved at my questions giving me ?a look? thatclearly indicated how she was feeling. I ordered a chicken ramen soup and when it came it looked lovely. The broth was hot andtasty but the chicken was not very hot and I wondered if the chef put cold chicken in the soup. Also the chicken was over cookedand tasted like it had been in the refrigerator too long. Yuck! The other ingredients were corn niblets, raw julienned carrotand green onion and ramen that was undercooked. I thought the corn was weird and I would have preferred the carrot to be gratedrather than julienned because it would have not been so obviously raw and it would have lended itself nicely to the soup had itbeen grated. My partner had a pork belly ramen soup with a pickled (?) egg. He thought the pork was nice but he questioned thecombination of ingredients in his soup saying that each individual ingredient was good but all together in the soup didn?t seemto work. Our server came over near to the end of our meal to ask us how it was. I didn?t say anything to her about it becauseshe just had a few negative words between her and the chef and we could tell she was not going to reign in her negativity so shecould be more pleasant with us. In the end we knew she had a bad day as do we all at times, but if you are annoyed withcustomers as soon as they are seated? It just wasn?t a pleasant experience. Read more

We had a very long wait. But I absolutely do not fault the restaurant. It is a small place and it was a Saturday night in... downtown St John?s. One service person and she was kind, sweet and a star. There are two guys in the kitchen on food and dishes. All in all we waited to get in but the wait for food was not too bad. First the sides. The tempura was acceptable. Pretty good. Not crispy though. But good flavor, your oil needs to be a bit hotter and try adding a little oil to the batter. The gyoza wasgood. Could have a little more green onion in the inside, but you cook them properly. Pan fried. Crispy bottom and soft top. This is the first time in the last 9 years I have seen this. We live in the states, have done for the past 9 years and all gyozaare frozen factory ones and then deep fried. These were so much better. Not so traditional however, but they are your gyoza andthey are very good. All three ?ramen? we tried were very good. Presentation, toppings, and the soups were all good. The porkwas strange but not bad. If you are expecting chashu it isn?t. It is pork. But they are not advertising chashu. Of the three theTantanmen was best. The soup was really good. Not the best I have had but really good. There are sooo many different variationsof ramen in Japan. It is an art and every chef has his own variation. For those who have opinions on the flavor or the saltinessor whatever, again this is the chefs choice. There is no ?correct?. I have two points of disappointment here. And they are big.Ramen should he served piping nuclear hot. This like all other ramen we have had in North America was kinda hot. But not hotenough. Hotter than warm but not like a Japanese ramen shop hot. But I do not fault the restaurant for this. North America islitigious about these things and if you wanted to serve the ramen like in Japan you would need all your guests to sign a wavier. So I get it. I don?t deduct anything for this. Just expressing myself. I have lost so muc Read more

Amazing ramen and great ambiance. You have to try the "fried chicken curry" (pictured), the combination of flavours and spices... is perfect! The staff were friendly and really accommodating with my food allergies. Read more
